Types of CSCS Cards

If you are working on a building site, CSCS cards are a way to quickly and easily identify people performing different functions and their level of competence. Once issued, most cards are valid for five years.

The Black CSCS Card indicates that the holder is a manager. The person holding it has has passed the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test. In addition, the manager must have achieved the NVQ/SVQ levels 4, 5,(or QCF Level 6 or 7) in his (or her) occupation.

An Advanced Craft/Supervisory Card is issued to a person who has successfully completed an approved indentured apprenticeship (BTAJIC, (NJCBI), or NVQ or SVQ Level 3. This card may also be issued to a person who has completed an employer-sponsored apprenticeship.

In the latter case, the apprenticeship must include the completion of a City and Guilds of London Institute Advanced Craft Certificate. Applicants who wish to apply for an Advanced Craft/Supervisory card must also pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environmental Test.
