If you’re like most people, you’re probably wondering how to pass the CSCS test in 2023. Since the introduction of the newly added behavioural case study questions, there have been fewer people passing their CSCS exam every day mainly because of a lack of preparation.
A lot of people are under the impression that the CSCS test is a basic common sense test that requires no revision or preparation, and when they don’t pass, they wonder why.
What does the CSCS Test Involve?
The CSCS test is done on a touchscreen computer and is designed in a multiple-choice format. You’ll be given 45 minutes to complete the 38 health and safety knowledge-based questions and 12 behavioural case study questions.
Before the test begins you’ll have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the touch screen test if you want.
It’s recommended that all candidates use this opportunity to get a feel of how to navigate through the test; some people choose to skip this process and end up losing time trying to figure out how to navigate while taking the actual test. Don’t be that person!!
The pass mark for the CSCS operatives test is 45 out of 50.
How to pass CSCS Test in 2023
1. Watch the setting out film
The free-to-view film “setting out” plays an essential part in passing the CSCS test; the 10 principles conveyed in this video form the basis for the behavioural case study questions. It’s an 11-minute-long video presentation that’s divided into parts.
The first part is known as “what you should expect from the construction industry” it focuses on the steps and procedures your site management has to take to ensure you and your colleagues remain safe and healthy at work.
It explains some of the legal requirements your employer needs to undertake to ensure you and your colleagues are not placed in obvious danger.
The second part of the video “what the industry expects of you” focuses on your responsibilities; the responsibility of overall safety doesn’t lie solely with your site management or employer.
As an employee, we all play a part in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment and the second part of the setting out video highlights what your management will expect you to do to ensure your safety and the safety of everyone onsite.
2. Revise for the test
Revision is always the first basic step to passing any test, for the CSCS test you’ll need the official CSCS test revision book which includes all the questions and answers to help you pass the updated CSCS test or if you prefer you can try our free CITB CSCS mock tests.
Besides the test questions and answers, both books also contain basic information about the CSCS test including how to book your test, how to prepare for the test and what to expect during and after the CSCS test.
There are two versions of the book, the first one is meant for site Operatives and Specialists, and the other is meant for Managers and Professionals so make sure you choose the right version for your specific type of CSCS test.
3. Practice for the test
The second step to passing the CSCS test should come as no surprise to you, practicing with our CSCS mock test questions will give you an idea of the types of questions you can expect on your test day and the level of difficulty you’re likely to encounter.
To make it simpler for you we’ve only allowed 10 questions per page in many of our practice tests, so you can attempt them and get a good understanding instead of reading through question after question and not really grasping the intended concepts.
It’s always a good idea to keep things fresh by revisiting your CSCS revision book and practicing online just before the test.
